Building your personal brand within Esports

Getting recognized in Esports can be difficult but do not worry we are here to help you build your personal brand and help you get the career that you always dreamed of.

Becoming a pro player

Now becoming a pro player might seem simple. You might think all you need to do is compete and win and that is the case for a lot of the bigger names within Esports but one thing that you might not recognize is how big those players' personal brands are. For example, we will take a player from Counter-Strike now as Simple. He is considered one of the best players to ever play in Counter-Strike and one of the more skilled players in the game, but on top of this, he has built his brand from the beginning of competing in Counter-Strike. He is one of the largest names but will still take the time to stream on Twitch in his free time to interact with his fans. Most recently Simple had taken a small break to work on his mental health but during this time he still tried to stream to continue building his brand. From this, he was able to secure a temporary position on a new roster for when he returns in the near future.

Being a pro player is not as simple as it once was. It is a lot easier for a team manager to drop a player with no following than someone who has a massive following behind them. The reason for this is that many teams make their money off sales of merchandise and sponsorships. Having a player with a large name and a large following is hard to drop because of the fans that the player has is someone that the organization can sell merchandise to and, they can bring those numbers to sponsors and raise their asking price for that company to be a sponsor of their Esport organization.

Building Your Brand

Now you might be wondering how you build your personal brand, and it can be difficult to do. We suggest that you start by streaming your gameplay on a streaming platform like Twitch, YouTube, or Kick. From here you can connect with fans as they speak within your chat and create clips to post on other social media platforms. From these small clips, you can post them on platforms like YouTube Shorts, TikTok, and Twitter to help gain followers and get recognized by people who work and compete within Esports. Now remember do not expect to just load up and gain followers right off from the beginning. You need to give a reason for people to want to follow you and want to return to your stream and follow your career within Esports.

Building a portfolio for Esports

Outside of the professional side of Esports there are many careers in the background of Esports and one of them is social media marketing. Social media within Esports is one of the biggest impacts for an Esport organization and to get a career within one of the larger organizations will take time and a lot of hard work. What we suggest you do is build a portfolio of Images, Videos, and other forms of content and send them to smaller name Esport companies and players. Allow them to use this on their personal social channels at no cost. If they do end up using your images put this in a portfolio and continue to build it. After time you can send this to a smaller size organization to try getting a job within that organization's social media team and remember to continue to build your portfolio. After some time and hard work, you should be able to get into one of the large-name organizations.
