Learning Call of Duty Esports

Call of Duty is a first-person shooter that is played across consoles and PCs. It is well known for its Multiplayer, Battle Royal known as Warzone, and its round base game mode known as Zombies. 

Now Call of Duty does have two different scenes in Esports one for its multiplayer mode and warzone. For this blog, we are only going to focus on its Esports scene within multiplayer. 

Call of Duty has three game modes that are played in Esports they are Hardpoint, Control, And Search and Destroy. Call of Duty Esports are played in teams of 4 where you play against another team of 4 in a best of 3 or best of 5 series. A best of three would only play one Hardpoint game, one Control game, and one Search and Destroy. The first team to win two of these games will win. A best of 5 will be played in two hardpoints on different maps, one Control, and two search and destroy on two different maps. The order for a best of 5 goes in the order of Hardpoint, Search and Destroy, Control, Hardpoint, and finally Search and Destroy. To win in a best 5 is done by winning 3 of these games. 

Game modes explained 

Hardpoint is a hill objective game mode where the hill has a set amount of time and when it expires it will move to another part of the map. To earn points at least one member must sit on the hill without someone from the other team sitting on the hill. The first team to get to 250 points wins, if time expires the team with the most points wins. 

Control is a game mode played in rounds where the first team to win three rounds wins the map. Control each team has 30 respawns. One team will be on offense and the other team will be on defense. The team one offense is trying to capture two different zones on the map before losing all their lives or letting the time run out. After one hill is fully captured the time will get extended. The defensive team is trying to stop the offensive team from capturing the zones. The offense can win by capturing the two hills or killing everyone on the defense team till they run out of lives. Defense wins by letting times run out of time or lives before they capture the two zones. After each round, the two teams will switch sides. If the match is tied after round 4 the defensive team is awarded to the team with the most captures. If captures are the same it is then rewarded to the team with the most kills. The first team to win three rounds wins the map. 

Search and Destroy is a game mode that is played in rounds. One team is on offense and the other team is on defense. The objective is to be the first team to win 6 rounds. If the game is tied 5 to 5 the team with the most kills gets defense. This is called the pistol round. When on offense the objective is to take one of the two bomb sites on the map and plant the bomb. There are two ways for an offensive team to win the round. The first option is to kill everyone on the defensive team. The second option is to plant the bomb and guard it from the defensive team till it explodes. The defensive team has also two ways to win the round. The first way is the same as the offense killing everyone on the offense team. The second way is to defuse the bomb after the offensive team has planted it and that must be done in a short amount of time or the bomb will explode.

There are many different levels of Call of Duty Esports. The primary one is the Call of Duty League where the highest of all players play on one of the 12 teams that competes in the Call of Duty League. Under this is the challenger scene where the players are trying to prove they deserve a spot in the Call of Duty League.  

There are also online tournaments that are free to play online all the time and some colleges and universities have started to make Call of Duty teams to play in different leagues against other colleges and university
