What are the benefits of pursuing higher education while building a career in Esports?

Building a career within Esports can be difficult, but getting a job within Esports is becoming easier. This is because there are starting to become different levels of Esports at different age groups.

A few years back Esports was something that was starting to develop but if you wanted to be a pro player you needed to take a risk and skip going to post-secondary school, but that is not the case anymore. Now there are many different Colleges and Universities across all of North America that have their own Esports systems and teams competing in different gaming titles. Examples include Western University, St. Clair College, Conestoga College, Durham College, and the University of Waterloo. Some of the gaming titles that these colleges compete in are Call of Duty, Overwatch, League of Legends, Valorant, Cs2, and many more gaming titles.

Some colleges and universities are even starting to build their own arenas for their esports teams to run events out of them. St. Clair College currently has one of the largest esports programs in Canada and with that, they have an amazing arena known as the Nexus Arena.


The Nexus Arena has 72 gaming PCs, a 5 vs 5 competition stage, 3 VR spaces, and 8 console gaming stations featuring, PS5, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch consoles.


St. Clair has one of the most impressive Esports programs in all of North America competing in gaming titles of Call of Duty, League of Legends, Overwatch, Rocket League, and Valorant at a varsity level. They also compete in Apex Legends, Call of Duty, CS2, FGC, Fortnite, Iracing, League of Legends, Omega Strikers, Overwatch, Rainbow Six Siege, Rocket League, Smash, Teamfieght Tactics, and Valorant at the academy level of Esports.


On top of St. Clair Nexus Arena Conestoga College had recently announced their new arena that they plan to open in the year 2025.

Conestoga College has also grown and built a really nice esports with them competing in Call of Duty, CS2, League of Legends, Rocket League, and Valorant at the varsity level. They also compete in Call of Duty, CS2, Chess, Dota 2, EA FC, Halo, League of Legends, Overwatch, Pubg Mobile, Rocket League, and Valorant at the academy level.


It is also known that they plan to expand into other gaming titles once they open their arena in 2025 which will be a 10,000-square-foot facility with 50 PCs, 5 Console Stations, VR stations, and a competition stage similar to St. Clair College.





With these opportunities, there is starting to be a road map where someone could become a pro player while getting a post-secondary education. On top of this, there are also programs where students could go to college to study esports and graduate with a college diploma in Esports.

Esports is a growing field and getting a career within Esports is becoming easier every day. There is no reason to risk not getting a post-secondary education anymore while trying to get an education within esports. There is no better time than now to apply to a college with an esports program to pursue your passion for getting a career within esports than right now.
